On Tuesday, June 28, 2011, City Council adopted the FY 2011/12 budget, fee schedule and appropriations limit. The budget addresses an existing structural deficit in the City budget by calling for approximately $2.1 million in expenditure reductions. Reductions at the Library include the elimination of two vacant staff positions – one Senior Office Assistant position and one Library Specialist III position – and the closure of the Library on Thursday evenings.
Beginning Thursday, July 7, 2011, the Library closed on Thursdays at 6 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. It was decided to close Thursday evenings because analysis of key library usage indicators such as the number of visitors entering the building, items returned, items checked out and reference questions demonstrated there was less library usage on Thursday evenings than other times.
The Sunnyvale Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2009, in observance of Memorial Day. The Library will be open for regular hours over the Memorial Day weekend and will reopen on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
